Abstract
Polyazomethine esters were obtained by low-temperature polycondensation of aromatic dialdehydes and 4,4'-diaminotriphenylmethane in an aprotic solvent. The polymers synthesised were low-melting substances with good solubility in organic solvents and concentrated sulphuric acid. The optimum conditions for the production of high molec.wt. polyazomethine esters were determined, and their mesomorphic properties were investigated. 8 refs. Abstract
The influence on the stress-strain diagram of three-dimensional polymers of oligoester acrylates (OEAs) of the chemical nature of the groups (ester, carbonate, amide, urethane and urea) in the oligomer block and the length of the latter was established. The reduction in the technical strength of OEA polymers in comparison with the theoretical strength was due to the presence in the macrospecimen polymer body of defects at the level of nanogels (their MWD, the presence of rings and suspended groups), microgels (the absence of the necessary coherence of the nanogels in the microgels) and macrobody structure (defective coherence of the microgels, the presence of excess free volume). 11 refs. Abstract
The effect of whiting on the mechanical properties of chemically-crosslinked PE foam was investigated. The presence of up to 15% filler was found to have little effect on the appearance of the foam. The apparent density of the foam increased only slightly. The characteristics of the foam under compression were improved and its TS was increased. Whiting was thus an active filler for the PE films forming the structure of the plastic foam and its use as a filler makes it possible to broaden the area of use of chemically-crosslinked PE foam. 5 refs. Abstract
Results are presented of a study conducted to eliminate the toxicity of wood-mineral-polymer composites (WMPCs), to expand the range of components of WMPCs, to give certain WMPCs functional properties, to increase their water resistance and deformation and strength properties, and to improve their aesthetic and user properties with the required reduction in the content of expensive polyolefin (PE) binder. The results show that it is possible to recycle renewable waste of plant origin and certain highly-dispersed mineral substances. An empirical approach is proposed to describe the physicomechanical properties of the composites considered, based on three constituent volume fractions, i.e. rigid, slightly deforming volume fractions, thermoplastic volume fractions, and cavities. 42 refs. Abstract
The possibility of poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) and blends of PHB and ethylene-propylene rubber being contaminated by species of micromycetes was investigated. Aspergillus flavus, Trichoderma viride and Penicillium chrysogenum were the most aggressive species. The thermophysical characteristics after exposure to organic acids were determined by DSC and IR spectroscopy. It was found that 100% PHB was less susceptible than the blends to the fungi tested. 7 refs. (Article translated from Plast.Massy, No.7, 2010, p.62-64)

Abstract
The potential for both homogeneous and heterogeneous structures to form in oligomer blends was demonstrated. The nature of the dependence of viscosity on the composition of the heterophase blend was found to be governed by the phenomenon of wetting of the surface of the dispersed phase dispersion medium. Selectivity of filler distribution in oligomer blends was shown. The potential for filler formation during the actual composite matrix curing process was also demonstrated. 11 refs. Abstract
The process of silanol crosslinking of high-pressure PE films using the PENTA-1002 modifier was studied. It was shown that silanol-crosslinked PE films with a gel fraction content of over 50% could be used at high temperatures as, when this was done, a sparse but continuous network of chemical intermolecular bonds was formed in the PE. There appeared to be real potential for crosslinking of the films without a special operation involving hot air or steam treatment. High levels of crosslinking were achieved on storage for 6-7 days under normal conditions. 8 refs. (Article translated from Plast.Massy, No.9, 2010, p.18-22)

Abstract
The accelerated thermal ageing of peroxide-crosslinked HDPE tube specimens was studied in the temperature range 110-190 deg C. The results were mathematically processed using the traditional GOST standard attested method. At elevated temperatures (180-190 deg C), there was marked variation in the physical and mechanical properties of the PE with exposure times of 5-10 days. The temperature had a significant effect on the rate of the process of thermooxidative degradation of the material. At 190 deg C the main change in properties occurred in the first 48 h, while at 170 deg C the properties remained virtually unaltered during the first 10 days. The rate of formation of an oxidised layer on the surface of the specimen had a marked effect on the kinetics of yield strength variation. The results indicated that operation of tubes made from peroxide-crosslinked PE at 110 deg C would lead to a 25% reduction in physical and mechanical properties after no more than 300-400 days. Under storage conditions in the Russian Federation, the tubes could be stored for over 100 years without any loss of physical and mechanical properties. 3 refs. Abstract
The effect of orientation stretching of irradiated PETP films on the shape of the pores formed during chemical pore etching was studied. The results showed that orientation stretching enabled latent tracks in the polymer to be stretched, which gave rise to track membranes with elliptical pores. The effect of deformation of irradiated polymer on the structure and physical/mechanical characteristics of the track membranes formed was examined. It was assumed that the change in the polymer structure resulting from heavy-ion irradiation could be linked to local heating at the locations where the charged particles passed. 14 refs. Abstract
The relationship between the properties of PETP flakes and the quality of hollow fibre extruded from them was investigated. It was shown that, in order to increase the void fraction in the fibre, the degree of stretching of the fibre melt during moulding should be increased. This would make the walls of the moulded fibre thinner and would consequently cause a rise in the void fraction in the fibre. 3 refs. (Article translated from Plast.Massy, No.9, 2010, p.31-34)

Abstract
Polymeric film materials based on PE containing between 0.5 and 1.0 wt % nanocrystalline silicon (ncSi) with good strength properties were prepared, Specimens of ncSi with a mean core diameter of 5-10 nm were synthesised using plasma chemistry methods and laser-induced breakdown of monosilane. Spectral studied indicated an almost total (up to about 95%) absorption of UV radiation by films 85 microns thick in the 200-400 nm range with a 1.0 wt % ncSi content. Using the method of full-profile modelling of X-ray diffraction patterns and assuming that the crystallites were spherical in shape and had a log-normal distribution, the particle size distribution density functions in the initial powders and polymer films containing immobilised silicon nanocrystallites were derived. X-ray analysis results showed that the distribution function for crystallite dimensions remained virtually unaltered with implantation of initial ncSi specimens in a polymer matrix, while the degree of crystallinity of the initial polymer increased (about 10%). 18 refs. Abstract
The effect of the addition of liquid polyorganosiloxane containing extended alkyl lateral substituents (PENTA-1006) as process lubricant to chalk-filled PVC composites was studied. It was shown that this product was a good universal process lubricant which improved the conditions for and reduced the energy input into processes of mixing and extrusion of rigid, chalk-filled PVC composites. The strength of the composites was not reduced by this modification and the material deformation characteristics were significantly improved. 6 refs.
